Over Margriet

Margriet Kamerling woont met haar Frans-Canadese / Italiaanse man en hun twee kinderen aan de rand van Arnhem. Op de zolder van haar gezellige rijtjeshuis heeft ze een kleine studio met grote ramen.Hier begon Margriet tijdens de pandemie met het maken van collages, opgebouwd uit laagjes handbeschilderd papier en soms ook met papier uit tijdschriften en kranten.

Inspiratie haalt ze uit de wereld om haar heen en ook de verschillende nationaliteiten van haar familie en vrienden zijn van grote invloed. Ze houdt van reizen, wandelen, lezen, fotograferen en heeft een grote fascinatie voor (kunst)geschiedenis. Als ze aan het werk is luistert ze het liefst naar podcasts.

Een terugkerend thema in haar werk is Riomaggiore. In dit Italiaanse dorp woonde ze een aantal jaar. Ze trouwde er met haar grote liefde en haar eerste kind werd hier geboren. Het is een plek waar ze zo vaak mogelijk naar terugkeert.

Margriet studeerde in 2001 af aan de HAN in de opleiding Commerciële Vormgeving, een vrije studierichting van de lerarenopleiding Tekenen & Handvaardigheid. Ze specialiseerde zich in inrichting van ruimtes en was werkzaam als decorateur en retail stylist voordat ze naar Italië vertrok. In 2019 slaagde ze voor de opleiding Interieur Styling aan de Interieur Academie. Naast het maken van illustraties werkt ze als Visual Merchandiser bij Søstrene Grene in Arnhem.

About Margriet

Margriet Kamerling lives in Arnhem, the Netherlands with her French-Canadian/ Italian husband and their two teenagers. She has a little studio with big windows in the attic of their cosy suburban townhouse. It was here that during the pandemic she started making collages with hand painted paper and snips from old magazines and newspapers.

The world around her is her biggest source of inspiration. The different nationalities of the family and of her friends are a big influence on her work and on her life. She loves to travel and to go for walks in the beautiful nature around her hometown. Other favorites are: books, photography and she is fascinated by (art)history. She loves to listen to podcasts while she’s working

A returning subject is Riomaggiore, one of the towns of the Cinque Terre in Italy where she lived for a few years. This is the place where she married the love of her life and where her first child was born. She tries to return as often as she can.

After her graduation from art school in 2001 , Margriet worked as a decorator before leaving for Italy. She recently completed a course in Interior Design.
